Former @secretservice agent and my friend Larry Buendorf has passed away at 87. Here he`s being attended to by White House physician Dr. William Lukash after his hand was injured grabbing a gun as he stopped the assassination attempt on President Ford by Squeaky Fromme in Sacramento in 1975. Larry went on to be head of security for the US Olympic Committee until he retired. Joe Frazier’s manager Yancey Durham leads him out of the ring 54 years ago today, March 8, 1971 after Frazier whipped Muhammad Ali in the “Fight of the Century” at Madison Square Garden. Ali refused to admit that he lost the battle even though Frazier beat the shit out of him and broke his jaw in the process (sound familiar?). Just heard that Clint Hill has passed away at 93. I took this portrait of him in 2017 at our place in Santa Monica when he and @lisamccubbinhill stopped by for a visit. Clint was the Secret Service agent who leaped onto President John F. Kennedy’s limousine in Dallas in 1963 after he was shot and was credited with saving First Lady Jackie Kennedy’s life. He was haunted by his inability to save her husband, however. It seems the Vietnam War will never end. The producers of a film called "The Stringer" that premiered recently at the Sundance Film Festival (and rightfully came up empty in the awards category) defames Nick Ut @utnicky (here with Kim Phuc at the @eddieadamsworkshop in 2012). They allege that Nick didn`t take the picture of Kim Phuc running down the road after being hit by napalm. The photo, one of the most famous ever made, won Nick the Pulitzer Prize in 1973. Like soldiers, photographers don`t leave our dead or wounded on the battlefield. Now is the time to come to Nick`s aid and donate to the legal fund we established to prosecute the filmmakers who slandered Nick. The excellent lawyer (he also represents me) @jhornstein1 is handling Nick`s case for free, the money isn`t for him, but for those he has hired to carry this forward in the courts.
