A Quick Trip To Wyoming

By David Hume Kennerly | Oct 25, 2013

Like most of us who travel regularly for our jobs, I only get a few hours in any one place. The last couple of days are no exception. I’ve been in Wyoming since day before yesterday, and of course had to satisfy my picture-a-day project that I’m shooting on the iPhone. My first stop was […] Read More

Old Faithful Overcomes Government Shutdown

By David Hume Kennerly | Oct 23, 2013

I was in Yellowstone National Park today, and a ranger told me, (jokingly), that Old Faithful kept erupting during the government shutdown, even though nobody was around to see it. I’m glad something in this country is working without a pause for politics!

Gravity is Great!

By David Hume Kennerly | Oct 22, 2013

Saw Alfonso Cuaron’s brilliant film Gravity last night at the AMC theatre in Century City. It’s Das Boot in outer space. Visually stunning, push-you-back-in-your-seat drama. For those who have a bad case of the plausibles, this isn’t for you, but as off the wall incredible entertainment, you have to see this. As a reporter asked […] Read More

One Eye, Three Points of View, and a Blue Moon

By David Hume Kennerly | Sep 3, 2012

I keep my “photo instrument” in tune by trying to shoot pictures every day.  The iPhone has really helped. It’s light, the photo quality is good, and you can talk to people on it. The iPhone, doesn’t replace my grown-up cameras, of course, which are the new Canon 5D Mark IIIs. They are the reliable […] Read More

My friend and colleague @petesouza behind the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office during the change-over from Bush 41 to Clinton 42, January 20, 1993. Pete and I were hanging out together watching history unfold from the inside. Bush used the C & O desk (made for the owners of the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway owners around 1920, and donated to the White House). This one was created from salvaged wood from the HMS Resolute, and presented to Pres. Rutherford B. Hayes by Queen Victoria in 1879. It was first used by JFK, then Carter, Reagan, Clinton, Bush 43, Obama, Trump, and now Biden. It’s a beaut! Hard to imagine how many photos Souza has taken of it during his tenures as White House photographer for Reagan and Obama. @cntrforcreativephoto #resolutedesk #ovaloffice #petesouza ...

The good ole days. Judging from the look on the Secret Service guy, there was an obvious breakdown in security! Here with about-to-be-VP Joe Biden at the Lincoln Memorial in 2009. Congrats to him on assuming the presidency. It was a long and winding road to get there, but most of believe it was worth the journey. Photo by Greg Mathieson @joebiden @cntrforcreativephoto ...

The new first couple. I took this in 2013 of Vice President and Mrs. Biden after President Obama's and JRB’s second inauguration. Biden was sworn in today as the 46th President of the United States. @cntrforcreativephoto @canonusa #history #canonusa ...

Four years ago today, Jan. 20, 2017, I was there to document this moment. A presidential hat trick. One frame of the three together. All would be president. As you know Trump didn't have the courtesy to show up for Joe Biden’s inauguration as Obama did for him. It's now officially Byedon, hello Joe! @cntrforcreativephoto @canonusa #canonusa #history ...

As we approach the inauguration of Joe Biden, I pulled this out of the Kennerly Archives at the @cntrforcreativephoto to show you how it's supposed to work on that day. I took this January 20, 1977, (L-R) President-elect Jimmy Carter, First-Lady-to-be Rosalynn Carter, President Gerald R. Ford, First Lady Betty Ford, Second Lady Happy Rockefeller, Vice President Nelson Rockefeller, Second-Lady-to-be Joan Mondale, Vice President-elect Walter Mondale gather in the Blue Room of the White House before proceeding to Capitol Hill for Carter's Inauguration. Not necessarily one big happy family, but Republicans and Democrats displaying national unity. Ford conceded the election the morning after the 1976 race, and pledged and followed through on a timely and professional transition. The portrait of President John Tyler behind them was painted by George Peter Alexander Healy in 1859. #jimmycarter #geraldrfordmuseum #realleadership #presidents #history ...
